¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ

Congratulations to Alysia Kohlbrand who received a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship from UK’s Chellgren Center. This award will support Alysia to work with Drs. Edith (Phoebe) Glazer and David Heidary in the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Department, to study the effects of small molecule inhibitors on Nitric Oxide Synthase. These enzymes are used in the body to catalyze the production of nitric oxide (NO), an important signaling molecule which plays a central role in human biology.

In recognition of his contributions to the field of environmental chemistry Kayvon Ghayoumi is honored with the Division of Environmental ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ 2017 Undergraduate award from the American Chemical Society. Ghayoumi earned a B.A. in ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ this Spring. His interest in Environmental ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ started while taking CHE 565 taught by Dr. Marcelo Guzman, who later became his research supervisor.

Three chemistry undergraduate researchers from the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ, along with more than 200 other student representatives from across the state, presented their research Frankfort, KY, on February 25th to showcase their research to the state legislature at Posters at the Capitol.  

The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Office for Undergraduate Research has presented 17 students with the Oswald Research and Creativity Program awards.

Two UK Juniors receive Undergraduate Research Abroad Scholarship, to travel to Switzerland and Brazil.

The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ will host the 2014 National Conference on Undergraduate Research, or NCUR, next semester, which will bring nearly 4,000 additional students from across the country to the UK campus.
